Lately, I have been a bit overwhelmed with the prospect of facing an editor with a manuscript. Not worried of the rejection necessarily, but of having to start all over from scratch. So I have been praying and thinking of what I could do to start small. I figured writing a few small articles for a magizine might help me get my foot in the door of the publishing world. I was surfing through craigslist last week and came across an ad seeking writers to submit articles for an up and coming family focused magizine. I responded promply and recieved a forwarded memo from the editor of American Family Magazine asking for sample article on given topics. He listed the specifications and formats he wanted them in. I wrote and rewrote my sample article a good five times until I felt it was ready for submission. I E-mailed it in on monday morning not really expecting a response. The response, however, did come that afternoon. The editor said the article was good but didnt meet their standards by any means. He did reply that he would love for me to edit my article and resubmit it because the content was good, but not what they were looking for. So naturally I stayed up late that night and completely re worked the entire article and sent it back to him the next morning. He replied that it was great and he was going to present the article to his production team this week. I wont recieve a reply until next or maybe not at all. But the fact that an editor actually looked over my work-Twice! What a feeling. He sounded sincere in his e-mails and I guess its out of my hands now. But what a victory no matter what the outcome is. Even if they dont accept it what a great first step into the world of publishing. I cannot depise the day of small begginnings! Neither should you!
