A national magazine has accepted an article I wrote for publication and I am pretty stoked up and praising God about that... I'm not so stoked by the events that led to the writing of the article and so there are mixed emotions. I cannot publish i...

I'll get on it

I'll get on adding some of my writing soon... it will likely be a little different than what you might expect, at least that is what I am hoping. I'm not really that good at doing what you might expect anyway, and the unexpected is sometimes deliciously surprising (daresay shocking?)

Salvation

Salvation

Salvation is a gift so free
discipleship has a cost
to follow where our Master leads
we need count all things lost
laying all our hopes and dreams
piled up beneath His cross
a tiny price to thank Him for
the weight of sin we've lost

Yondersea

yondersea

content to sail on waters near
and experience the islands here
but on one day you will see
as i depart for yondersea

enough it is to sail today
the straights and channels, local bays
but there will be a time for me
to point my bow to yondersea

these storms do rage and gales do blow
as on these waters i sail my boat
warm waters blue await for me
over there on yondersea

delight it is to sail this shore
but i ahunger something more
this world is not the home for me
my true home waits… Continue

Chapter 4 of the unfinished memoir

Chapter 4

Depression

Life usually has a way of exposing our little inconsistencies. It’s those things, those little preconceived notions about what is and isn’t that we allow to settle down into the cracks between our beliefs and cement into our idea of right and wrong that I am talking about. I have learned that most of the time I haven’t much of a clue on absolute right and wrong, but I tend to place preference as supreme in thinking.

I am prone to depression. They say that mo… Continue

an excerpt

This is an excerpt from some of my loosely termed memoir

Yesterday morning, before the sun had even reached the edge of the Cascade mountain range to the east, I had practically written the Great American Novel in my mind. Not exactly a novel, more like a biography or something. As the old Kenworth I was driving labored under the weight of 50,000 pounds of British Columbia’s finest export cranberries my mind was full of words and sentences, ordered thoughts on life frosted over wi… Continue

Kevin, thanks for your honesty in your last comment. I can understand your concern to not let the "Christianese Monster" out in your writing, but let's remember who we are in Christ. We all have our views and opinions and understandings of what is Biblical and we want to share that with others; that is why we write.

I do believe that we all have a voice in writing, as you suggested, but that is a good thing, not a bad one. My opinion of that is not to compromise your voice for the sake of not sounding too preachy, if that is what you mean. I don't recall Jesus watering down the words He spoke to gain popularity or not to step on any toes. On the contrary, He wasn't a people pleaser, He was a God pleaser.

As for your writing, it is great. It's up to you on what you share and how you share it (I was just talking to the class about this...be transparent, but not too transparent). I'm not into censorship on this web site. This is a place to practice writing and be free to let others know what interest you and share information that would be beneficial for whoever reads it.

Bottom line is this: if you worry about how your voice sounds on paper, it will always bother you when you write and it will severely affect your writing. Be yourself and learn to enjoy your writing. And besides, no one really talks like they write, and it's not a good thing to compare the two. That's my opinion anyway. ;)

Blessings,
Yvonne
