Writer's Edge

Glorifying Christ One Blog at a Time

When I think of violent prayer, it takes me back to a book I read just a few months ago. The book Violent Prayer, by Chris Tiegreen, is about prayer that is ingaged against a foe that seeks to destroy us. It's about engaging the enemy with our emotions, and fighting those principalities in the heavenly realms. It's about fighting the darkness of this world, with the Word of God and our emotions, as Christ did.

It really gave me a new perspective on how to pray against the enemy of our soul, and not people. When we pray, we need to pray against powers that oppose God, and our lives, but in a way that attacks the very root of the opposition - vain imaginations sent forth by the demonic realm.

God is greater, and we can partner with Him, as He exposes the schemes of the enemy and guides us into undermining the enemy's plans.

Go Jesus!

I just ordered the book you mentioned and am looking forward to engaging it.

I have never thought of prayer as violent, and I am usually very peaceful and in an attitude of gratitude when I pray. I have never been angry at God, either. The worse things get, the more I gravitate toward God with gratitude that I am still alive and still have a hand in matters that matter to Him.

Maybe I'm weird, because the Psalms are often full of fist-shaking and "Don't you see me? Don't you care about me?" I know God cares about me and all I love even more than I do, so I have never been angry with him. I guess that's rare.

I know our battle is against powers and principalities, not flesh and blood. And since we're joint heirs with God, He's in our DNA, that part of our new nature that knows we're victors, no matter what happens to us here on earth!

Perhaps after I've read the book I'll have a different perspective...

Yes! I do believe you will have a new perspective on prayer, after you read the book mentioned.

The basic concept is to pray with your emotions. God gave us emotions to be violent against those things that oppose Him. Jesus was upset when He saw the money changers in His house, because they were suppose to be there seeking God, not fortune.

We can pray violently, because as Chris Tiegreen says in his book, "if we are to pray for God's kingdom to come, we also need to pray for another one to leave." Pretty profound!
